Trophy Winners to Date: Graham Cup Ambrose - Charlie & Shane Downs Summer Cup - Graham Kelly Rutherford Memorial - Kris Kretschmar Strokeplay Championships: Seniors - Tony Cawley Intermediate - Brad Gibbons Junior - Kris Kretschmar Top Dog - Jono Erwood & Kevin Clough Under Dog - Henry Morton & Don Robertson 11 August 2008 Fine weather on Saturday enabled the completion of the Top Dog final, with J Erwood and K Clough defeating M Cook and M Fraser 3 & 2. The Captains Trophy divisional finals were also played, with S Jury defeating B Cave 4 & 3 in the Juniors and C Caskey heading off H Morton 3 & 2 in the Seniors. The two winners now meet in the final at a date to be confirmed. The stableford competition was won by T Watts, with 43, ahead of B Kretschmar 39, S Ngatai 38. Then came M Boland, C Merson, W Dymond, D Behrent, T Cawley and K Broughton, all with 37. A frosty morning delayed the start of the Egmont Championship on Sunday. The leader after the morning round was R MacRae, after a one under par 70, one ahead of T Cawley's 71. MacRae backed that up with another 70 in the afternoon to take the title with 140, ahead of Cawley's 145, with J Choi 3rd on 146. Senior nett winner was Dan Armstrong with 142, ahead of H Nolly 143, and K Rai 145. Winner of the 2nd Division nett was B Swindlehurst with 135, ahead of G Radich with 136 and C Christie with 137. This Saturday is the first of three qualifying rounds for the Matchplay Championships. You need to play all three to contend for the Armstrong (best gross) or Yardley (best nett) Cups, but the top sixteen two round gross scores in each division will play off for the matchplay championships. Tee off is from 10.30am. C Caskey is the starter, phone 7622 886. The Holden Scramble is all on on 28th September. It is a 3 person ambrose event, open to all golfers with an official New Zealand Handicap. The rules and other information are available on this website. Taranaki Golf Coach John Garner will run the coaching clinics starting with the Club's juniors and children who would like to give golf a go, from 10.00am to 12.00pm, and then from 12.30pm to 2.00pm., he will give golf tips to adult members and others who turn up to give golf a go. | |
